Purpose of the Course
The purpose of this course is to introduce students to one key Old Testament text and one key New Testament text. Mark is chosen as an example of a Gospel which can be seen to be depending on the Isaiah tradition in the interpretation of Jesus' ministry and person. The relationship between the Old and New Testaments will be raised and also the historical, literary and practical mission issues surrounding these central Biblical texts
Course Objectives: By the end of the course the student should be able to:
1. Identify key theological emphases in Isaiah and Mark's Gospel
2. Explain how these are related to the context and mission of Jesus
3. Develop a clear perspective of Christian mission in Africa.
